OMG I would work for them anytime.

C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S.

Even better if you have a lactating cow you can put them on so as it doesn't cost you much to feed them.

Well the girls are doing great! Eating a ton of feed though!! I am going to get a roundbale for them tomorrow so that will cut my feed bill back a bit.
The people who gave them to me rang me this arvy and asked if I wanted another baby... it took me a minute to work out they meant poddy not child :D
So I now have Sam, a lovely little a bull about 3 days old, no idea why he wouldn't suck off his mother but he loves the bottle. He is sick but I think it's just a cold from lack of nutrition and he is happily curled up under the house with a dog rug on tonight :)
Will take a pic of him tomorrow.

Poor little Sam had to be PTS this arvy :wah:
I noticed a bit of milk coming out his nose while drinking this morning and had a feel in his mouth to discover a huge hole in the roof. Emailed the vet a photo but they said there was nowhere near enough tissue to sew it up and the kindest thing would be to put him down :(
Once the decision had been made I decided to get it over and done with as soon as possible and I got a friend to do it for me because I couldn't! Am pretty sad tonight...
I'll put up a photo in case anyone is interested in having a sticky - you'll probably have to click on it really see it.

:( How sad. Now we need a photo of the roof of the mouth from the healthy calves to compare to. I presume no red at all.

If you get a calf in the future. If they are at all sick you need to needle them. (Antibiotics I think).

A healthy calf lies curled up. A sick calf lies flat out.

I made a little video once. It is very short for dial uppers, but I listed all the things on there for healthy and non healthy.

Here is the other one I made if you are interested. Just pretend that my hand is your hand.

Yeah, it would be good to have another photo - but the pink skin that is on the outer edges of his palate should cover all of his palate and you definately should not be able to see his nasal cavity.
I gave him a penicillan (sp?) shot when I got him incase he had a chest infection, I've saved calves with pestivirus, akabane & dcs before so I do know the importance of penicillan.

My sympathies Becca :(

I used to breed colourpoint cats (a long time ago) & I remember having a kitten with a cleft palate. Only one in the litter. Just awful..... I do feel for you.
The symptoms were similar.....milk would come from the nose & not go down the throat.

Luckily with humans, it can be repaired.
farmers do not need sex
they get screwed every day by the govt !!

Must take a new piccy of the girls today - not that they've changed much...
I'm guessing you don't like Brafords Jode?? :) I'm not a huge fan but they're a stud and actually have the nicest brafords I've worked with - these girls aren't a great example as they haven't had milk since they were little.
